NEW Urban Cycling Skills Workshop

This workshop is for people who'd like to get a bit of help in
improving their urban cycling skills. This isn't about becoming
professional road cyclists or mountain bikers. It's about becoming a
comfortable and self-assured cyclist on Toronto's roads.

Ever wonder what is the safest position on the road? Would you like to
ride in colder weather but not sure how to do it safely? Do you want
to know how to reduce your chances of a collision or what to do if you
are in a collision?

We hope to give you more tools to become an effective and self-assured
cyclist. The workshop is structured so you get a lot of information
from the experienced instructors as well as have the opportunity to
share experiences with other students to come up with practical and
effective strategies for cycling in Toronto. All of our instructors
have had at least CAN-Bike 2 training.

The price is $30 per person with a maximum class size of 8. Please
RSVP so we know we can meet the minimum class size of 4 people.

Wheelbuilding - Part II

You must sign up for both workshops.

The wheel building workshops will teach with standard wheels in a 3-cross lacing pattern. We will cover spoke calculations, lacing the wheels, truing and tensioning. Participants must take both classes. If you register at least 3 weeks in advance you can purchase rims, hubs and spokes through CBN, otherwise expect to build wheels from our stock components. Please let us know if you are planning to build wheels for yourself!

You will probably get dirty, so dress accordingly!

The class will BEGIN at 7 pm sharp, please plan to arrive no less than 5 minutes before.

The class location is: CBN Intersection, 761 Queen Street West, Toronto.

Email us as soon as possible to register for this workshop, or contact us immediately if your plans have changed so that we might fill the spot.

Price: $30 per person per class. Registration is required with a cash deposit of $10 at our office, 761 Queen St. West, or via Paypal on our website (see "Donate" button on sidebar to the left). A maximum of 5 people per class will be accepted.

Intermediate Workshop: Bearings and Wheels

Workshop 2: Bike Repair - Bearings and Wheels.

3 hrs, $30, 6 participants max.

Bearing Adjustment: Review (from basic class) of how to identify need for adjustment. How to adjust, how to identify need for overhaul (but not how to). Demonstration and hands-on.

Spoke Replacement and Wheel Truing: Very basic introduction to minor wheel truing and how to replace a spoke (barring other damage). Demonstration only.

Chain wear check and how to identify need for replacement of drive train (chain/cogs/chainring/pulleys), sizing of chain, lubrication. Demonstration (with hands-on if time permits).

Tales of a Yellow Bike - Screening

The festival, which runs from Oct. 22 to 26, is made up of more than 100 films and videos focused on the environment.

Hahn, director of Tales of a Yellow Bike, decided to focus her film on the importance of bicycles as the main mode of transportation after learning about Toronto's BikeShare program, which ran from 2000 to 2006.

The bicycle lending program, in which hundreds of members could rent yellow bikes at 16 hubs in the city, shut down due to insufficient funding.

"I wanted to do a film about bike sharing programs across the world," Hahn said. "Our first days of shooting happened when BikeShare shut down in November 2006."

Tales of a Yellow Bike tells the story of bike share programs in Europe, North America, Columbia and China and the perception of bicycles in various countries.

"In Amsterdam they have so many bikes they don't know what to do with them all," Hahn said. "In China they have 470 million bicycles. In China, bikes used to be the only mode of transportation. In Bogota, Columbia there are hundreds of kilometers of bike lanes."

So why is Toronto so slow at jumping on the bicycle wagon?

Flat-fix Tune-up Repair Workshops

through a tube repair and installation.
